Don't expect anything great, but it should be better than any of the machine translated we've previously seen. Bear in mind that I'm not a native English speaker nor Japanese. I do this for fun and I hope others will enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed TLing. I used Mozzi2's version. Feel free to take this and improve upon it. The timings aren't the best but I tried fixing most of them. Thanks to: Mizore for the script and timing @EngrishSucks for the Engrish at the start Remonwater for the novel translations

Finally some decent subs. I've skimmed through some bits and it looks good.
Took a quick skim of this, still has a bunch of mistranslations. It's certainly attempted to fix some of the mistranslations Mizori had in hers but it still leaves a bunch that I can detect. It's as you said, definitely far better than Mizore's so I appreciate that effort, but it still has some questionable mistakes. Also, just a FYI, what I wrote was lazy for the Engrish part was lazy, and I worked on a better version which adapted (and fixed) what Subaru said more so than the Subtitles. About the mistakes, For example "I'll pee on you", "Kitten boxers", "Fortune Websites", are some glaring ones I spotted as mis-TLs, and a bunch of the start of the date part seem to have a few mistakes in it too, in both terminology and nuance. I should take a better read when I have time, but this is the impressions I got from my litmus testing
These re NOT decent subs.

@EngrishSucks Hey thanks for the feedback! I basically didn't change much from the first 3-4 minutes, and the first two mis-TLs you mentioned where part of the Mizore subs and just me being too lazy to change it. I felt like fortune-telling website was the correct translation but seeing as how it felt too long I shortened it to fortune websites, or is it just plain wrong altogether? Do please reply with an updated version of the Engrish! If people want to I can upload an updated version. @DmonHiro What did you think was lacking? Some feedback is appreciated so I can in the near future update it! ------- I want to remind everyone that I usually work full-time and recently got a day off and decided to work on this. As I mentioned feedback is always appreciated! I did the first episode of Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan back during new years which was just 12 minutes long so this was definitely a challenge for me.
...........ahhhhhh....hah !
It's not fortune-telling website at all, it's 裏サイト I'm subbing it so I also stumbled upon this Had to check the books (not RemonWater's translation since they're also pretty inaccurate for many parts, but the Japanese source) for various parts of it too I'm now 40% done with it It will be done in a few days hopefully (I'm also working with @engrishsucks on it) You can leave it as is if you want for those who really can't wait. My subs (based on the books and the source content) Will be done in a few days. Given the time I'm dedicating to it and the fact that we're 2 at it, I can guarantee it will be 95% accurate at least if not 100%. So those who can wait, I advise you to do so
^ hmm "So those who can wait I 'advice' you to do so" Who's doing your tlc? Did you mean advise?
Welp, typos happen when you've been working non-stop for 4 days, you know... Advise yes
translations in general are never 100% accurate, there are always things lost in translations however this is really decent subs thanks for your work mate! also @killua69100 I'll be waiting for your subs as well! having both subs won't hurt PS : what do you translate ''裏サイト'' ? ''fortune telling website'' seemed right at first glance, but now not so sure...
>Bear in mind that I’m not a native English speaker nor Japanese. https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/050/209/b01.png
裏サイト is a pop culture reference in a sense. (not exactly) You had an example of it in Hyouka if you watched it (or was it? It's been a long time so I'm not 100% sure) Literally, the closest translation would be "underground website", but if you want to know more, check this example of it: https://www.fuhyo-bengoshicafe.com/bengoshicafe-509.html I made a TL note explaining it, so you can look forward to that too
Several mistranslations seems to come right from mizore;s sub. And even for non-english speaker like me your english seems to be kind of heavy.
I see, I kinda get it now...thanks! I'll be waiting for your subs!

> PS : what do you translate ‘‘裏サイト’’ ? ’‘fortune telling website’’ seemed right at first glance, but now not so sure… It's basically a closed off 2ch/4chan that are focused on particular schools.
@cty That's actually a very good way to put it . That was the example in Hyouka with the chat room Ebisu used to talk to Oreki's sister. Though, other non-school related 裏サイト exist too.
>translations in general are never 100% accurate, there are always things lost in translations I definitely agree with this and I appreciate the effort that goes into it as a dabbling translator myself. The amount of times I've misread something, misunderstood something or my brain blocked up are too much to count. Which is why I know I would not be qualified to attempt something as popular as an OVA even were it fully transcribed, but I try to chime in on the quality where I am confident I can judge it, and help out wherever I can (proofing Killua's work, giving my opinion on certain nuances, giving my opinion on certain ways of presenting a translation, Re: Zero specific terminology, etc.). I can see that you did try to clean things up using Remon's translations, so I think for people who want something quick and more accurate than honestly some of the -awful machine translations that I've seen, your work will definitely be a help to them, so I definitely don't mean to disparage you by what I said. But I do think there are issues with using the Mizore subs as a base that linger here. Edit: As for a perfected translation of the Engrish version, for now I won't release it because we're going to see how we're going to handle that part. (Subaru's Engrish is god awful, and the subtitles in Japanese underneath it sometimes deviate a tiny bit from what Subaru actually said, a bit. So perhaps we'll try make something readable from the two.)
@otaku_J-san, I just meant there won't be mistranslations in it ^^ Just as @EngrishSucks said, we know more than anyone how hard it is to completely convey the meaning of a Japanese sentence in English. The easiest example would be when Emilia said : "すごーく失礼でしょう!” A basic translation would be "That's very rude!" But that doesn't capture the nuance of Emilia's speech pattern. There are countless other examples too. So, what I meant was that, at least, there won't be mistranslations. We're trying our best to include all the slang otaku terms and pop references Subaru mentions too, but that's the part where the language/translation's limits are reached, and I agree with you on that.

@Killua69100 Thanks for the insight! Looking forward to your guys' version.
Whoa, doesn't it seem that many of you don't know much about Japanese subculture and their terminology? An otaku anime isn't fun without their slangs being properly translated. 裏サイト(ura saito=site) 裏垢(ura aka=account) 裏メニュー(ura menyuu=menu): Each word has its own meaning but they all simply connote "a back-door deal." And you and I would say, in English, "a hidden [web] site" for "ura saito," "an alternate account" for "ura aka" and "a secret menu" for "ura menyuu." Please don't forget an article in front of the noun because Japanese don't have it. People would keep it to themselves when they are engaged in some "alter" activities. And that's prevalent in Japan, too. P.S. I should be waiting for the better subs...
@lerusso Do you discord? Kirua#1353
@Killua69100 I've never used it but I do have an account. That's lerusso #2489 (I don't even know if they are in one word, or the tag is separate?)
I sent you a friend request there ^^
@lerusso I agree with the other two, but I don't think "hidden site" conveys the right meaning in this context: it isn't supposed to be hidden from view as in being a darkweb or an invite-only site; it's just an anonymous forum or message/image board. What Subaru is saying is that he's supposed to still be at the age when taking so much as a glimpse at the typical degeneracy happening on these anonymous boards would be too scarring for him. So in my opinion it's better to handle this phrase contextually.
@moozooh Subaru said it in front of Emilia and she pretended that she didn't know what it was. It's just a kind of 18+ site and you don't have to have it contextually translated. If you still insist, I'd give you a word: uncensored (Kyaa I've never seen it).
Perhaps unmoderated then? I don't think "uncensored site/forum" is a common phrase.
Subaru just mentioned a porno site and that's quite simple. In Japanese, censored is said "omote (front)" and uncensored is said "ura (back)." That's their terminology. There are tons of unmoderated sites in Japan and most of them are "omote" so anyone can join it anonymously and they won't hide it from anyone. Just say it "Porno!" and that'll cover it all in the subs.
In that case, why not "adult site"? Clearly not every one of them is pornographic per se. (Idk why you are arguing against contextual translation, though, when it was you who came up with three different English phrases for 裏サイト already.)
I like this! when we can all discuss anime and translations and stuff, without bashing others in a harmful way, I think this is a very mature comment section and I applaud you guys! there is gonna be a 2nd OVA in the near future and will probably have the same issue with translation,I hope you guys will be around by that time, and thanks again @NoSleep @EnglishSucks @killua69100 for your hard work!
@moozooh Killua and I were on discord for a wile on this one. Subaru mentioned a porn site without actually saying it, so in this case "adult site" is a miss. But wile people in the United States have no problem viewing materials of graphic content on the web, it's all censored or banned in Japan, on the web or in the magazines. Ura in Japanese means "uncensored" and a TL needs to convey it,
>In that case, why not “adult site”? Clearly not every one of them is pornographic per se Subar uses a word that Emilia can't understand.Adult - is just a common word.
I don't trust the subtitle work of anyone willing to use garbage-tier Moozzi2 video encodes.
@zafhos "Site" is the one she doesn't understand. "Ura" (back-side, reverse, shadow-side) is a common word.
@Otaku_J-san Given that I'm really enjoying working on this, I definitely want to do OVA2. BUT, I have to be free by then. It so happens that I have a summer break now, so I'm able to work on it. But I can't guarantee how it will be when OVA2's bluray comes out. I hope I'll be free at the time. (Besides, let me finish this first xD 46% now :/)
the wait continues.
This was fine for me. Thank you NoSleep.
Guys, an advice: Don't use Mozzi2 raws.
>I like this! when we can all discuss anime and translations and stuff, without bashing others in a harmful way, I think this is a very mature comment section and I applaud you guys! This only happens when nobody comes to rain the parade.
@BlackScience Why?
looks like another pass.
@moozooh How does japanese matter here? Guys translating to english. Or they should just add some TLNote like "we know that both english words are quite common for medieval girl, but in jap version she does'n understand what saito is"? I think here must be some modern word... @Clae224, moozzi uses lot of filters that makes video crispier and overall much nicer. Haters hate them cause the Original is sacred.
@zafhos In both cases there is a phrase of two words, of which one is common adjective and the other a noun she can't understand. If you think "site" doesn't sound confusing enough in this context (I think it does), change it to "website". TL notes should be an absolute last resort for obscure references and puns without close equivalents in the target language; this isn't either.
These subs are fine if you aren't super nitpicky. I'd say it's around 96% readable english.
@zafhos Oof... so there's no prob at all with mozzi2 raws rite?
@kaizoku32 It's also mistranslation we're worrying and talking about. Even if it's readable English, that's not what is said in Japanese.
Mozzi2 raws has weird filters that make the video worse compared with original one, his raws aren't better than original because he would be more smarter than the studio. I don't care if you like him but if you want a proper release then use a decent raw, Mozzi2 raws are for personal use. Also, don't use Ohys raws too.
wait for neko raws or bacteria raws
@Killua69100 would you be able to let me know once you've completed your subs? very interested! Also, does anyone know how I can set my account picture? :)
@RoolaRoo, it's 85% done now. What's left are easy but tedious details, so I hope It'll be done in ~2 days (give and take) ^^
@Killua69100 hopefully based on my timezone thatll mean itll be done saturday night !!! lol
This is gonna make me sound like a dick, but I really don’t understand how it can take so long for an OVA to get good fansubs when seasonal anime episodes get good fansubs in a matter of hours. Sure, this OVA is about 3 times longer than a standard anime episode but still, by that logic this should’ve only taken 3 times as many hours to do. There’s gotta be some obvious reason I’m missing, but at first glance one would think that fansubber groups would’ve done this OVA proper service by now.
priority plain and simple... how much time do the subbers have on hand since most dont do it as a full time job...now think about how many seasonal anime come out each time and how many need to be subbed each week because they dont get licences deals or netflix screws us and make us wait for months ahead of time now with all those factors if they took time for all the movies an OVA that come out we would all be behind in seasonal and people would go mad

Also add on the fact that, while there certainly is high demand for high-quality fansubs, the show itself is being outsourced to companies who obtains them both legally and before it airs in Japan. This in turn makes it less motivational to fansub which essentially slows down the procedure as there's less people doing it.

> This is gonna make me sound like a dick, but I really don’t understand how it can take so long for an OVA to get good fansubs when seasonal anime episodes get good fansubs in a matter of hours. That's because majority of “fansubbers” just do some small text edits to Crunchyroll subs, change sub styles, maybe add some karaoke on top and call it a day.
for what RAW should I use it?
You can use this raw https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1149276 or neko-raws https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1149544
It's finally done! Will review it a few times before posting it tho ^^
YESSSSS GIMMEEEE GIMMMEEE
@jb510 check my post ^^
Oh yeah, awaiting subs hopefully today @killua
