#### Long story short, I feel that the various 'official' sources do not have enough contextual knowledge to provide the best quality subs, and I want all of you to view the 'best quality' subs. --------------------------------------------------- Hi, I'm Touya, a translator who has been working on various Lapis Re:LiGHTs translations for the past 2 years. You may also know me as the man behind @relightsEN on twitter. I have watched both Muse Asia and Crunchyroll subs, and there are some things with their translations and subs that I am unsatisfied with. I won't go into too much detail, but there are a sizable amount of awkward subs, and I don't feel like those should be the norm of Re:LiGHTs subs. ---------------------------------------------------- ### If you can wait half a day for my subs, I can guarantee that the subtitle quality will be much higher than Crunchyroll, and especially Muse. ---------------- The reason why I take half a day is because this is a 1 man show. In addition, I do not have the script in my hands like official sources do. I also cross-refer to BOTH Muse and Crunchyroll to supplement my script, as my ears are not 100% accurate. (This means that my script will still be the main translation, while Muse and Crunchyroll serve as QC) ---------------------------------------------------- DO KEEP IN MIND THAT MOST FUTURE EPISODES WILL ONLY BE UPLOADED ~12AM GMT! EPISODES 1 (and 2) IS ONLY COMING OUT BEFORE THIS TIME PERIOD BECAUSE I CAN TRANSLATE EARLY USING THE PRE-SCREENING ----------------- Comments: - For this particular episode, my key frames got all messed up and that affected the timing of my subtitles. I tried to fix as much as I could, but there was no way to fix all of them in a timely manner. I apologise, and hope that this will not happen again - The video quality should be 720p (i think) ------- Feel free to join the Lapis Re:LiGHTs discord if you want! I'll make a message whenever my subs are available~ https://discord.gg/MK9RDCG

\>Crunchyroll subs I would love to see them, because they doesn't exist on their website! \>60fps.mp4 Well, maybe your subs are better than official subs (Muse, Funimation). But without downloading I can say for sure the video quality is not. Can't you just mux the subtitles with Funi's 720p and/or 1080p raw? \>For this particular episode, my key frames got all messed up and that affected the timing of my subtitles The pre-airing is 29,970fps (which is wrong). That could be the reason it won't fit with a 23,976 source. If you're using the pre-airing for translating you've to time it anew or at least copy & paste your lines to the Funimation subs.
yikes why do people who don't know how to fansub "attempt" it on their own instead of asking for help or joining a group? it's not like many groups will pass on a translator.
hi touya I hope you will change how you upload you're video because the same thing as stated above 60fps because it ruins the way animation works i check you're subs its really good its way better compared to crunchyroll and being a fan in the same franchise i dont want to ruin my experience by watching it in 60fps hope you'll work on that
there are no crunchyroll subs wtf the only official subs are from funi and muse asia

1. My mistake. Funimation, not Crunchyroll. One of the subs I downloaded from listed CR as it's source. 2. I'm still new to the process of converting videos. I'll probably just download RAWs for the next one. 3. I'm currently doing it on my own because my group is fine with the official, while I am not. I also feel that it's unfair to say "yikes, why do people who don't know even attempt", because that's how people learn. 4. Sure, many groups would certainly like a translator. But in my 2 years of translating for Lapis Re:LiGHTs, I have not seen a single individual (let alone group) outside of relightsEN show interest in bringing any content to others. 5. See #2
@Touya_Kami ignore herkz dudes always like that hope you get a hang of it soon
Great, mind sharing only the .ass so we can put it in another video xD?
this guy really just hardcoded the subs
\>I’m still new to the process of converting videos. I’ll probably just download RAWs for the next one. You can use Erai-raws or HorribleSubs for clean raws. Aegisub for creating subtitles and MKVToolNix for muxing them with the raw. No re-encoding required. If it's an Original TL you might want to learn how to properly time as well. Here is a good starting point for some basics: https://unanimated.github.io/guides.htm
@olivo28 [was going to link to anime tosho for sub](https://animetosho.org/view/touyasubs-lapis-re-lights-s1e1.n1259844) but I presume it doesn't show attachment because the file is mp4. Also has screenshots. >PS: are the screenshots at anime tosho an accurate representation of the video ?
@Touya_Kami Here's more stuff to learn if you want to - https://yukisubs.wordpress.com/guides/
>because that’s how people learn you literally can't learn how to do the majority of fansubbing on your own. it's way too complicated (as this release shows). i have never seen or heard of a single person figuring out how to do this stuff on their own. it's knowledge built up by the entire community over years and then shared. sure, there are guides you could try to follow, but without feedback, you probably won't improve much.
- Video quality is beyond terrible - Mixed honorific usage (-san, -chan and -senpai are kept but -sama becomes Miss) - Hardcoded subs Honestly, you seem enthusiastic about it but you really should either find someone else that already has some experience to use your subs or just take HS's release and put your subs in it. From the little I watched the subs seemed fine though, so I don't think that the quality will be an issue, worse comes to worse you can just put on the .ass files for people to use with other video files.
tbh any sub that doesnt use "titi" for "tiara-chan" is already good enough
\>60fps \>hardsub \>mp4 das a yikes my brudda
> it’s not like many groups will pass on a translator. There are nearly no groups left on this Earth so most fansubbing these days is either solo or ad-hoc groups. Only a few established groups remain and most aren't even very active. One thing I'll say though is that you do not need to encode web sources unless you're an experienced encoder. They're usually good enough anyway, and few people can see the difference with a better encode. I sure don't unless there's a shitload of banding and terribly low bitrate.
