loli demon time hell yeah
ooooooooook then
Good thing I didn’t watch CR yet
damn how fast bro really unexpected
Well, let me delete my SP release.
fast (thx)
I'd rather you guys finish Kaguya-sama, Talentless Nana or Flip Flappers tbh
This reminds me of all the ISIS ninja girls who had to wash their hair in the river. Then got thrown into the refugee death camp. This would be great show to show on side of tent there. Sort of like Jashin chan finds a job and stops trying to kill Kufaris. This gonna be good one!
I hoped Jahy from Kaleido but it turns out GJM. Anyway, it's nice tough.
"Jas?" Really? Pains me to say, but I'll stick to subsplease. Anyway, good job typesetters.
staller-sama wa Kujikenai! (enhanced edition)

Every choice that exists for that name is cringe. :)
Too bad there doesn't exist a choice to use "Hii-chan"...

GoodJobMedia (uploader)

That was included in the "cringe" choice list. Everything sucks for shortening a name as strange as Jahy, pick your poison.
Jojo > Jahy,Jas,Hii-chan
1 GB? what the fuck did you use to encode this?
@TheAyaneru dynamic grain and super heavy paper textures are fun
Also forgot to mention, but you can see exactly what was done to the encode [here](https://github.com/LightArrowsEXE/Encoding-Projects/tree/master/%5BGJM%5D/Currently%20Airing/Jahy-sama%20wa%20Kujikenai) if you're really inclined.
>HEVC in a cartel release If only Daiz were here now
there's nothing wrong with HEVC any roaster that cant handle HEVC will not handle H.264 10bit too
Why even bother subbing a show with an honourific in the damn title when you guys are so against them for whatever stupid reason? And why have Jahy refer to herself with "we"? People don't talk like that, not even demons from other worlds. It just sounds silly coming from a singular character, she's not some kind of Legion-like multiple personality character. I know she talks all high and mighty but that's not a good way to translate it, and I don't even know much Japanese. God I hope someone with a proper tolerance for honourifics does this show.
@Rowdy91 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_we Also honorifics can suck a dick
[02:05] <Myaamori> you know I wonder why all the japanese concepts that weebs argue are untranslatable are always entry tier japanese [02:05] <Myaamori> probably just a coincidence, I'm sure there are no more advanced japanese concepts that would be tricky to translate
@pcpeasant Yes, I know that kind of "we" exists. Doesn't make it any less silly. Also, honourific haters are the ones that suck dicks. How hard can it be to have 2 subtitle tracks in your releases to please to everyone instead of being all high and mighty about it?
Here, let me list a couple reasons: 1) It's two scripts. This means that if something requires changing in one, you also have to make sure it's reflected in the other. This can very easily get very messy, especially if you decide that you need to arbitrarily add another track, or make more changes to the alt track. 2) *It's two scripts.* Now, instead of just making sure one script is entirely correct, you also need to make sure your alt track has everything correct as well. They may need to make sure every honorific is correct, that none are missed, that lines are broken and retimed as necessary to make sure everything is still legible (remember, honorifcs are a pure increase to the character count—lines are always going to end up longer and require more time to read as a result!). This adds to the workflow and is another thorn in the QC/TL/Editor's side. 3) They serve no real function. From your comment alone, I can tell that what honorifics actually convey does not matter to you, you just want them in there for whatever reason. But for the TL/ED, they'll have taken into account what they're meant to convey and made sure that's reflected in the script. There is no real purpose to having them also written out other than to make some people feel good about reading some Japanese words, whether it serves any actual purpose or not.
We don't just go "oh yeah, let's hate honorifics!" willy-nilly or for the heck of it. They really serve so little purpose, but a lot of people have deluded themselves into thinking they mean way more than they do. [Here's a comment I like linking to people](https://www.reddit.com/r/LightNovels/comments/5jkjj9/one_thing_that_bothers_me_about_yen_press/dbhu1ji/) concerning honorifics that describes it much better than I could. Also to respond to your previous comment, whether the *romaji* title has honorifics has no bearing on whether they are or are not required in the translation, or that they serve anything particularly useful. It's just a dumb "gotcha!" argument. As for royal We, the character themselves uses pronouns that are pretty much akin to the royal We, so not having that one might even argue makes for a less accurate translation. Unless all you care about is honorifics and nothing else about the actual Japanese, I suppose. It's easy to talk shit as if you know anything about the translation process, but if you don't (as you in my eyes at least have clearly demonstrated), you really shouldn't be talking about it as if you know so much better, Mr "and I don't even know much Japanese"(-san).
A funny thing I just also realised is that you think we despise honorifics for some reason. I can tell you with a straight face that no, we do in fact not hate honorifics. It's perfectly fine to have Japanese honorifics *in a Japanese script*. Remember, you're reading an English translation here. Exoticism should only be taken so far, and perverting a language to be some holy artefact simply for being from a country that's idolised is borderline insulting. But at the end of the day, whether you prefer watching with or without honorifics isn't our business. That is, unless you make it ours by calling us for not having them and insinuating we must, by process of elimination, obviously *gasp* hate them!
Well I've definitely seen some colourful comments from GJM staff before regarding their thoughts on honourifics, so excuse me for thinking you guys hate them. That's why I'm being so up your butts about this. It's not like I hate you guys or anything either. I've downloaded plenty of your releases and liked them, I just wanted to state my opinion on how I wanted a translation of one of my favourite manga-turned-anime to turn out. I'm sure you know there's a lot of people out there who like honourifics and would prefer to see them in the subs, so I was hoping you could at least acknowledge them. And I like how you assume that I don't care about what honourifics convey, despite your attitude towards me "assuming" you hate them. Why else would I be here complaining about the lack of them if I didn't care about them? I prefer them in there because there's a whole bunch of them that mean different things in different situations and a lot of the time translations and localisations remove those different meanings. Is that really so bad of a thing care about?
>I prefer them in there because there’s a whole bunch of them that mean different things in different situations and a lot of the time translations and localisations remove those different meanings. If the translations and localisations remove whatever little meaning is conveyed by honorifics, then they aren't good translations in the first place. A good translation can convey all of the original meaning without having to resort to keeping bits of the original language. A lazy translation would resort to keeping honorifics in to convey meaning.
Thanks but HEVC..
@Rowdy91 fair, and I may have overreacted a bit. Gonna have to forgive me for that one, you're far, far from the first (and likely the last) to be hostile about something like honorifics. As for "removing what they convey", I have a hard time almost ever seeing that, so if you have any examples, I'm all ears. In most cases, honorifics can be dropped entirely because they serve no other function than common formalities (which in English are typically conveyed by tone, words used, etc., and thus require no honorific preservation to keep). Most titles that do hold larger meanings (think sama, chan, etc.) also fall in a similar boat, where you convey them by considering how the speaker comes across to the person, and sometimes throwing in a title or two (Lord, Duchess, Mistress, etc). Even for something like senpai that is often argued is untranslatable, the word itself rarely means anything that you can't glean from the way they talk or from information given in the prose itself (someone being your senpai doesn't mean you like them, it doesn't even really mean they're your superior. It doesn't even necessarily mean they're older than you, either! And since you need to flesh that out through prose, they're unnecessary words to keep in a translation and should instead be conveyed in the overall body of work rather than with a single word substitution). Again, sorry if I came off harsh, but it's not like we don't include honorifics just to piss people off. There's genuine reasons, and we take what they're trying to convey into account when translating them, and it's really annoying when people constantly explode at us simply for not including them directly, even when they are basically there in spirit and adding them back in does basically nothing except give us another vector for potential mistakes (that people will then also give us shit for).
>honourifics fun fact: it's spelled "honorifics" even in british english dipshit
@herkz No it isn't dipshit. I even looked it up before I wrote it like that. It's an accepted spelling. And why the fuck wouldn't it be? Honor and Honour exist, so why shouldn't there be honourifics? Why don't you do us all a favour and get lost already, herkz? I'm pretty sure 90% of the people here don't like you. I've seen them tell you so themselves. Just let us like our HONOURIFICS in peace.
(tfw I thought he was commenting at me, because I usually write them like that as well. Then I found out I uhhh for some reason didn't here. Oh well?)
Oh god I'm so hyped!
> Why don’t you do us all a favour and get lost already, herkz? I’m pretty sure 90% of the people here don’t like you. Because nyaa comments would be at least 90% less entertaining if he did get lost.
Nice, thank you

So GJM made up the We stuff? Does SubsPlease not do it? Any subs comparisons for stuff like this? I haven't had the chance to rewatch ep 1 from SubsPlease yet. Not sure which subs I'll go with.

It's not made-up, it's just that nobody in this thread complaining about it speaks higher than N5-level Japanese and/or understands a thing about translation theory. The decision is sound, as well as more thought-out than whatever the prosubs cheaped out with.
Can't believe GJM invented the royal We

iru

User
What I meant was that I was unsure if the official subs did the same thing or not, lol.
No, CR does not use the royal We.
@Rowdy91 >arguing with herks Kek Also, it's GJM release so what did you expect? I mean really. They are known of doing it for log time. Just take CR subs if available ant they will be always way less localized. Simple. >That was included in the “cringe” No, your argumentation and culturephobia is cringe tbh. And no. There's no such thing like one valid way/style to translate something so your 'translation theory' argument and throwing your tantrums about someone's else language knowledge are just plain comedic. Will you say same thing for people with zero bake knowledge who didn't like the taste of cake baked by famous confectioner? Or people that didn't like song cover done by professional musicians? **I mean it's your release, so do as you wish** I'm not trying to change your style or something, but if you're doing something cringy, expect people that don't know your culturephobic style to write comments like this. This is simple as this. You won't be able to force people that don't like this kind of localization to change their opinion (and trust me it's not just people that don't know a thing about Japanese, in the end I started learning English and Japanese just because I couldn't stand this kind of translations - I'm somewhere between n3 and n2 and I still hate the idea of altering culture, dropping honorifics etc, especially that honorifics are always easy to retain without sacrificing grammar and proper sentence structure - and they are saving a lot of cringe - unlike to personal pronouns or certain speech styles). Especially when you're putting yourself above them (and please don't try to deny this). >A lazy translation would resort to keeping honorifics in to convey meaning >lazy Bullshit.

>culturephobia This is how you make it entirely clear you have no idea what you're talking about. Please, do go off though. The "translation theory comment means you must think there's only one correct method" strawman you just presented got a chuckle, you can have some points for that. Anyways, we've long been done justifying our decisions since frankly, we don't need to, but there's always time to try to correct and/or inform people with uninformed opinions or who are just lacking the appropriate knowledge/understanding.
>Bullshit. Thanks for the great reasoning. Protip: "Culturephobia" is not a real word. Get better at English before criticizing English translations.
Looking forward to the release of Episode 2.
this comment section required more popcorn than the episode itself

They always do. :^(
Can't please em all, might as well please yourself. Though translation theory is a relatively new field which essentially boils down to "this is what consumers have been shown to prefer".
66 comments i'm shook and this isn't even a shounen
@LightArrowsEXE didnt read cope seethe mald etc honorifics still better american
