#### **v3 Notice:** Overhauled hybrid encode which fixes the prior version's jerky motion alongside improved chroma and mosquito *(Gibbs)* noise reduction, as well as banding treatment. See comparison screenshots. Significant further subtitle QC was applied to fix a few residual typos, correct some lines, combine karaoke OP/ED, typeset signs, tighten script timings to eliminate scene bleeds, restore Japanese name ordering as well as honorifics among other fixes. ![alt text](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D0WNqFxWoAMyI3I.jpg "Poster") ___ #### [**OVA Information**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puni_Puni_Poemy) ### **Video** Source | Resolution | DAR | Format | Bitrate | Framerate | MediaInfo :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | R1 DVD | 716 ✖ 480 | 4:3 *(Anamorphic)* | H.264 10-Bit | ~1600 kbps | VFR | [**Link**](https://pastebin.com/iJ1utWN2) ### **Audio** Language | Channels | Format | Bitrate | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | Japanese | 2ch | AC3 | 224 kbps English | 2ch | AC3 | 224 kbps Commentary | 6ch | AC3 | 448 kbps ### **Subtitles** Language | Style | Format | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | :---: | English | Styled Modified R1 Dialogue | ASS | English | Styled Modified R1 Signs/Songs | ASS | Pig Latin | Styled Unmodified R1 Dialogue | ASS | English | Unstyled Modified R1 Dialogue | SRT | English | Unstyled Modified R1 Signs/Songs | SRT | English | Unstyled Unmodified R1 Dialogue | Vobsub | English | Unstyled Unmodified R1 Signs/Songs | Vobsub | Pig Latin | Unstyled Unmodified R1 Dialogue | Vobsub | #### **Filters used:** KNLMeansCL *(for chroma noise removal)*, McDAA3, MAA2, FineDehalo, aWarpSharp2 *(chroma sharpening only)*, F3kdb, SMDegrain, BalanceBorders #### [**Encode Comparison vs. Source & v2 Release**](https://slow.pics/c/et5nvjOo) **Updated Notes:** An updated release of Director Nabeshin *(Shinichi Watanabe)*’s OVA follow-up to the Excel Saga TV series. VFR to preserve smooth motion during certain segments including scrolling ED credits and several instances of live action video footage mixed in. Filtering to reduce slight haloing, aliasing, as well as UV sharpening and noise removal to eliminate chroma bleed were applied. Very slight luma denoising to reduce mosquito noise and debanding applied although priority was given to detail preservation so neither could be entirely fixed. None was applied during the OP as cleanup attempts proved too destructive to the dynamic video-camera details. Significant typesetting, retiming, and minor script fixes were also applied as this OVA is extremely text-dense in both signs and dialogue. Original unmodified DVD subs provided for those that prefer them. DVD extras also included.

Because of the rate of speech by the characters, notably the FMC's delivery by Kobayashi Yumiko, combined with numerous overlapping instances of concurrent speakers viewers may find themselves pausing or rewinding scenes at times to be able to process all of the dialogue being spoken. I would be surprised if even native speakers could comfortably keep up with the manic pacing featured in this OVA. Also because of their nature, certain signs proved beyond my skills to typeset in a very graceful manner. One positive concerning anime such as this from the digital SD era of the early 00s is that it compresses extremely well.
At last a VFR encode, sadly you used an incompatible HW meme codec.
