My very first upload encoded at AV1-OPUS (yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay). There will be a couple more uploads in HEVC-AAC for everything that had BD-Volumes released which I already encoded. Going forward though there will be more and more uploads like this one here. I’m still tinkering with settings and getting used to the new codec but it is planned to be the mainstay of my future anime projects.

Synopsis
A nameless sword wakes up to discover he has been reincarnated from his former life as a human. With his power of telekinesis, he moves around this new world, acquiring several skills and abilities. When the sword comes upon a forest filled with monsters, he meets a young girl fleeing from a beast. Grabbing the sword, the girl easily defeats the monster. After introducing herself as Fran, she names the sword “Shishou” and officially becomes his wielder.
The two set out to become adventurers, but unfortunately for Fran, she is a member of the Black Cat Tribe—a Beastkin group with a bad reputation. No member of this tribe has ever evolved into a mightier beast, but Fran plans to be the first and achieve her parents’ dream. As Shishou promises to remain her sword until she attains her goal, they form an unstoppable partnership of impressive strength.
Language Options
I included two simple scripts that you can apply to these files to do the following (Windows only):
To apply these put all the video files into the Language Options folder and run the .bat file.
Don’t combine them and only use them once together with the base files.

@3du-54n
Thanks :D I googled how to make a cool animation in after effects and found this >_<

That banner makes me not wanna download any av1 encodes. Thank you for pushing me in the correct direction.

@Oosik
Well, it is targeted towards young dynamic men…

My S905X3 based tv box is crying blood tears right now without proper AV1 encoding capabilities :(

The future is now.

Thanks though.

Good for you and us

@Nokou
Give in to the temptation. Come to the smol side. We have cookies (and hdd space).
LastBreeze
@Nokou I’m interested in your thoughts on what you don’t like about the picture quality, are there any issues to be aware of with the encode?
Dex_Luther
@LastBreeze I’m curious about what the results of a double-blind study would be. Av1, HEVC, and a regular bloated encode all randomly put up side by side. Would people be able to tell the difference? I’d expect few people would be able to. Definitely fewer than the number of people that pretend to be able to tell and just poo poo anything that isn’t an unreasonable size for no reason. Kinda like people that turn their noses at cheap wine, but can’t actually tell the difference if you hide or switch the labels.
EDIT: Skimmed some episodes on full screen on my 4k monitor, and they look great even though the resolution of the video is 1080p, So thanks Neo!

@Dex_Luther
Happy to hear that. Imo it is undeniable that minis look worse compared to something 5-6 times bigger. I can see that easily by doing comp shots on still images. It gets incredibly more difficult to spot in a normal viewing szenario though, at least for me. I value the size saved on this so much more and gladly pay the prize of losing some details here and there compared to having a bigger file. Everybody got to decide that for themselvs though. I do believe there are those who might spot the difference. I’d argue that the majority wouldnt though. In the end it’s up to the individual and there is no reason why there can’t be different choices here. I mean… there are different people on this platform with different priorities and tastes, right? You dont see me go around bigger uploads complaining that they are too big. Live and let live, no harm came to me by the existence of bigger uploads >_<

Nice. It’s time for me to steal this. 💁💁
Nokou
@neoborn lol, I downloaded episode 1 and so far no problems but im happy with the series i have, keep up with the great work.
@LastBreeze no he done a great job
Styx235
That intro banner made me laugh
Slainor
And what would have been the size of your HEVC version 4GB? If it were like 3-4GB less than the HEVC one sure i’d understand that.
neoborn (uploader)
@Slainor
AV1 to HEVC bitrate reduction should theoretically be around 20-30% with the same visual fidelity. With low filesizes like these this doesnt sound like much in absolute numbers but since I keep everything I watch and plan to do so for the next couple decades the savings do pile up nontheless. =)
Slainor
Yeah i also keep a huge ton of Anime on my Plex/Jellyfin Server (atm around 18TB 1447 Series in total) most of them are in HEVC only a few older Animes are really bloated since nobody rereleases them.
neoborn (uploader)
@Slainor
Wow thats quite a big collection with 18tb of minis :O. I’m only at 4tb so far >_<
StazCherryBlood
Congrats on the new gender bro

finally a proper encode
BigMoo
I don’t know how I feel about AV1, as I’m an ignoramus with regard to this. Can you please answer a few questions?
If I can play these on both VLC & samsung/sony TVs, I’m sold
neoborn (uploader)
@BigMoo
Everything written below is just what I picked up and may be inaccurate
Since VLC is one of the main promoters of av1 and also helped develop the av1 decoder dav1d there should be no problems there.
As far as I know android can handle av1 too. Samsung and Sony TVs from maybe 2020/2021 running android should be able to play it back.
But the best thing for you to do is just to try it. That is what I did with my nvidia shield (also running android) with the mpv media player for android. It works well there.
BigMoo
Thanks neo. I took your advice & tried it. Works on VLC PC, so should work on android too. Yet to try on TV
LastBreeze
Even without Android, TVs that have the Plex app can play av1 as well. Even if a tv can’t play av1, Plex will just encode it to a compatible codec on the fly anyway.
ThatWaxEllo
Playback on TV is shit anyway. Most don’t even support ass subtitles let alone HEVC.
LastBreeze
True, TVs do be like that. I don’t even understand the complaint “but my TV doesn’t play hevc/av1/doritos” when Amazon Fire Sticks are typically around $30ish
BigMoo
@LastBreeze: I am unaware of Amazon fire stick, so I would not comment on that. I honestly didn’t know that Firesticks could be used to play media in HDDs? Is that what you’re saying?
neoborn (uploader)
@BigMoo
I doubt LastBreeze will be back here. I think what he meant was that Amazon Fire Stick has hardware decoding capabilities for av1 (not many other devices do). This means you can give it an av1 encoded video and it can decode it, feed it to your tv and the tv can then play it back. If you plex server has external hdd’s with av1 files and the fire stick (plugged into your tv) is your playback device (plex client app), then it should play the av1 video without any problems. There is also software decoding but this takes up much more power which many devices lack. The hope is that in the near future many more devices offer hardware decoding for av1.
BigMoo
Thanks for the clarification neo!

Thanks! Good release.
