For anyone interested, here’s a summary of the issue:
We use Git for version control of our subtitles, but our subtitling software, Aegisub, doesn’t automatically load changes made to subtitle files while they’re open. Usually, this isn’t a big issue because you can reload the subtitles in Aegisub after pulling the latest changes. We’re all familiar with this process.
However, I had one of the subtitle files for Episode 20 open in the background. I pulled the latest QC fixes and created a mux to do my final check on the episode. Since I hadn’t done anything in Aegisub yet, the version I was working with was the latest one from Git. While watching the mux, which included all the fixes, I noticed a few things that still needed adjustment.
I went back to Aegisub, made the modifications, and saved the file. But since Aegisub still had the old version open, it overwrote the latest changes from Git. Most of the QC fixes I knew of were applied before the point I started reviewing again, and after I resumed watching, I didn’t realize that the earlier fixes had been undone.
Rookie mistake from my part.
